La lecture des <i>registres gascons</i><sup id="cite_ref-4" class="reference"><a href="#cite_note-4" title=""><span class="cite_crochet">[</span>5<span class="cite_crochet">]</span></a></sup> permet de suivre son expansion. Le 21 octobre 1515, la ville de Bayonne fait <span class="citation">« <i>inhibition et défense à tous les manants et habitants de la présente cité (...) d'aller en la paroisse de Bidart (...) à cause de la contagion de la peste</i> »</span>.</p>

<li>Le château d’Ilbarritz<sup id="cite_ref-5" class="reference"><a href="#cite_note-5" title=""><span class="cite_crochet">[</span>6<span class="cite_crochet">]</span></a></sup> fut construit entre 1895 et 1897 par Gustave Huguenin (architecte Biarrot) pour le baron <a href="../../../../articles/a/l/b/Albert_de_l%27Esp%C3%A9e_0ab9.html" class="mw-redirect" title="Albert de l'Espée">Albert de l'Espée</a>, héritier des fonderies de <a href="../../../../articles/f/a/m/Famille_de_Wendel_2cfb.html" title="Famille de Wendel">Wendel</a>, afin d’abriter le plus grand <a href="../../../../articles/o/r/g/Orgue.html" title="Orgue">orgue</a> jamais conçu pour un particulier (facteur <a href="../../../../articles/a/r/i/Aristide_Cavaill%C3%A9-Coll_a8b2.html" title="Aristide Cavaillé-Coll">Cavaillé-Coll</a>), le château était au milieu d’un vaste parc à fabriques reliées entre elles par un réseau de chemins couverts.</li>

<dd>Le grand orgue (visible aujourd’hui à la <a href="../../../../articles/b/a/s/Basilique_du_Sacr%C3%A9-C%C5%93ur_de_Montmartre_e6d8.html" title="Basilique du Sacré-Cœur de Montmartre">basilique du Sacré-Cœur de Montmartre</a>) est démonté en 1903, remplacé en 1906 par un second légèrement plus petit, mais plus perfectionné (facteur <a href="../../../../articles/c/h/a/Charles_Mutin_a8c9.html" title="Charles Mutin">Mutin</a>) qu’on peut voir actuellement en l’église d’Uzurbil (près de <a href="../../../../articles/s/a/i/Saint-S%C3%A9bastien_%28Espagne%29_0527.html" title="Saint-Sébastien (Espagne)">Saint-Sébastien</a> en <a href="../../../../articles/e/s/p/Espagne.html" title="Espagne">Espagne</a>).</dd>
<dd>Vendu par le baron après seulement 4 ans d'occupation, en 1911, le château sera transformé en hôpital au cours de la première guerre mondiale, le domaine morcelé en 1923, les fabriques détruites ou démontées. Maison de convalescence pour les réfugiés de la <a href="../../../../articles/g/u/e/Guerre_d%E2%80%99Espagne_ce0b.html" class="mw-redirect" title="Guerre d’Espagne">guerre d’Espagne</a>, garnison allemande à partir de 1940 puis annexe de ferme, les dégradations et les pillages continuent jusqu’en 1958 où une restauration partielle est engagée. Revendu en 1986, fermé pendant plusieurs années, le château, bien que classé en 1990 (toiture, façades, salle d’orgue, grand escalier, décoration intérieure) a souffert de son manque d’entretien. Un projet de restauration d’envergure est à l’étude ;</dd>

<p>C'est sur la commune de Bidart que se situe la vague mondialement connue de Parlementia. Tous les ans, une compétition de surf de grosses vagues y est organisée. On peut considérer cette vague comme patrimoine naturel de la commune et aussi une attraction touristique partagée avec le commune limitrophe de Guéthary où se trouve le meilleur point de vue sur la vague.</p>
